The Gravel Escape

Embark on a 5-day route through the Ebro Delta, exploring its stunning landscapes, wildlife, and rich cultural heritage.

Tour Details

Do you remember the feeling of discovering a new landscape after a bend?
That’s what you’ll experience riding through the Terres de l’Ebre: a place where time slows and nature speaks at every pedal stroke.

Roll along gravel tracks between vineyards and olive groves; listen to the silence, broken only by the cassette as you glide down a narrow street in a small village.

Wine tastings in modernist wineries, superb cuisine and living history make this cycling journey unforgettable.

The route threads through the tunnels of a former railway—passing the two‐millennia‐old
city of Tortosa—and carries you from the mountains that inspired Picasso to the Ebro Delta and the Mediterranean.
You’ll ride a unique landscape amid rice fields as flamingos lift into the air beside you.

And one question will cross your mind: why hadn’t I come sooner?

Feel like a pro. Ride without worries: we take care of everything, including what you don’t yet know you’ll need. Our guides are with you from start to finish, and a nearby support vehicle handles luggage, hydration and any mechanical hiccups.

Planning, routes and logistics are all handled so you can focus solely on the experience.

Enjoy the ride; we’ll handle the rest.

Overview

Today, you will ride through the heart of the Matarraña region across a dynamic terrain of gentle hills and fast trails. After a flowing stretch along the Vía Verde, you will head into a landscape of olive and almond groves that define this land, enjoying a terrain that invites a fast pace.

We will discover stone villages and medieval old towns, a perfect contrast to the freedom of the open trails. The constant ups and downs will keep you on your toes and your bike’s rear derailleur very busy.

Back in Valderrobres, the post-ride activity will help you lower your heart rate and recap the highlights of the day. If you end up with a bit of dust or mud on you, it means the day turned out exactly as it should have.

Overview

A day of transition from the limestone massifs down to the Ebro Valley. You will start out on mountain trails that require smart gear management before connecting with the path of the old railway line. It is a fast-rolling terrain that crosses viaducts and lit tunnels, allowing you to maintain a high cadence.

The highlight of the day is the descent through a rock-carved passage toward the Fontcalda gorge—a narrow and winding stretch flanked by sheer rock walls. Later, once you reach the valley floor, the route becomes flat and fast-rolling, following the river’s course south along the old railway track.

You will ride into the city of Tortosa beneath the silhouette of its medieval walls to complete the stage. After hopping off the bike, the post-ride activity will allow you to immerse yourself in the local history.

You will ride out of Tortosa, climbing toward the mountain range to catch your first bird’s-eye view of the Ebro river mouth. After cresting the climb, you will descend toward the coast to begin a highly scenic gravel sector in the Ebro Delta.

You will ride literally right by the water’s edge, skirting bays and lagoons, as you pedal through flamingo-spotting areas and past ancient defense towers rising from the water.

You will pass through small villages with unique architecture before wrapping up the stage in the fishing port of La Ràpita. After the ride, the post-ride activity will allow you to immerse yourself in the culture of this Biosphere Reserve.

Overview

To wrap up the tour, we offer a major optional challenge: climbing Mont Caro. This Hors Catégorie climb will take you from river level up to an altitude of 1,441 meters, on a road that has decided editions of the Volta a Catalunya.

The route demands smart gear management on its relentless gradients, winding through pine forests and limestone cliffs. From the summit, the sweeping views take in the entire Delta and the coastline, providing the perfect scenic finale after four days of exploring the southern trails.

After the descent, we will handle your luggage logistics and your private airport transfer. We will cap off the trip with a farewell lunch, sharing the thrill of having conquered the highest peak in the province before you begin your journey home.
